Many private gardens all over the country open to the public for charity under the National Gardens Scheme. They usually open for a few hours at a weekend or evening and charge around £5.00 per adult. Many serve drinks and delicious home made cakes which is an added bonus! Japanese gardens are increasing in popularity and so I was delighted when the opportunity arose to tour Japan in 2010. Having visited many of the most famous Japanese gardens I feel confident to incorporate japanese features into any garden. Below are some of my photographs.
There are four gardens in my 'Famous Gardens' section. The first and last are stroll gardens designed for walking around. The first is Kinkaku-ji (Temple of the Golden Pavilion). The next two are dry or gravel gardens constructed for contemplation. Ryoan-ji dates back to the fifteenth century and is built as a puzzle - there are 15 rocks but only 14 can be seen at any one time. Ginkaku-ji (Temple of the Silver Pavilion) was designed to reflect the moonlight. Lastly are photographs of Kenroku-en which is the most famous 'stroll' garden in Japan.

During my tour of Japan I saw many typical japanese gardens and below are some of my photographs of them.
